  • “Before Curves, I used a cane to walk and was scheduling knee surgery. After losing weight and exercising, I’ve hung up my cane and postponed my surgery—hopefully for good.”

February 11, 2003 is the day that Irene Wanner changed her life. She was overweight at 230 pounds, had bad knees and was using a cane for support. Her doctor told her that she would have to lose some weight and get her blood pressure down before she could perform knee surgery. Her doctor gave her the name of a local diet clinic, but the thought of getting on yet another diet did not appeal to Irene. Then she remembered a friend telling her about Curves. She joined immediately! After three months she was losing weight and her knees began to feel a lot better. She continued to lose weight after she joined the Six Week Solution Class. It has been four years since Irene never did have to have that knee surgery. In fact, she hung up her cane for good!

Teresa Howell knew it was time to do something about her weight when giving up a trip to Hawaii was less painful than the thought of wearing a swim suit in Hawaii. At 234 pounds, she had been diagnosed with high blood pressure a severe depression. That is when her neighbor convinced her to join Curves. “We agreed to work out together so that we had someone else to be accountable to and a lot less likely to cheat (by “we” I mean “me”), Teresa recounts." She really never liked exercising so she was amazed when she started craving her morning exercise routine at Curves. When she started to see results she enrolled in the Six Week Solution. As the pounds and inches decreased, her self esteem increased. Teresa was making friends and felt more comfortable with herself then ever. In fact, she enjoyed Curves so much that she started working at her club as a fitness coach. Teresa says, “I love sharing my successes and sharing in the successes of our members and my many new friends.”

  • “Because of the extra weight I was carrying around, my blood pressure was high and I was put on medication for over a year. But after losing 50 pounds through Curves, my doctor took me off my prescription. And I plan to keep it that way.”

On December 28, 2006, Mary Daniel went into her Curves location and was totally taken by surprise! There on the back wall was a very large banner which read:

Congratulations
Mary Daniel
For losing 100 pounds the Curves way!

A lot of fellow Curves members had signed the banner with words of encouragement and expressions of congratulations and good will. It has been this sort of encouragement that has made her a true believer in Curves.

Before Mary Daniel joined Curves in 2004 she had already had both hips replaced. She was a self-described "couch potato." "The only thing I did was hobble to work 5 days a week, come home and dive into my Lazy Boy chair until bedtime... I was on a dead end street and I had two choices; one was to just give up and lie there or the second was to do something." After seeing her daughter's success with Curves (she had lost 80 pounds), she decided to join the Six Week Solution Class. On September 16, 2005, she weighed in at 316 pounds. After the six week diet class she had lost over 20 pounds and 17.75 inches. "Curves had just given me the first step to heal myself." Within the next month she began the Curves exercise program. Not only did she start seeing the pounds melt away, but her blood pressure lowered so much she was able to get off of her medication.Mary is no longer a "couch potato."
"I can now look back at my life and see that I was on a one way trip to nowhere! With the new attitude that has come with the shedding of some excess pounds and a renewed view of me, I don’t just want to sit back in my Lazy Boy and watch the world go by. I want to become a part of it all. I am looking forward to the time I can retire so I can travel with my husband and see the country. I want to spend quality time with my children and grandchildren, and I want to become a more active, example setting Christian."
